Surviving Vacation

3

Since I will be busy until we leave on Sunday, I’ll just make a quick list of how I plan to be as healthy as possible while still having a great time.

I will try to stick to my Disney Half training plan as best I can and if I don’t have time to run (some excursions start at 7AM!) I’ll fit in some exercise later on in the day.

I will be walking as much as possible and taking advantage of the gym while on board.

For the excursions, Todd and I always sign up for the hiking/kayaking tours so I know I’ll get some exercise in. I always move a lot more during vacation because we’re out doing things and not glued to the computer for 8+ hours a day like I am at work.

4X4 Ride Around Cabo San Lucas, it was very dusty so we had to wear these bandanas around our faces!

So, I’m not worried about the exercise part at all. It’s the all-you-can-eat buffets! From past experience, I know there are plenty of opportunities to be healthy. Like picking salads and fruit instead of burgers and fries, so I just have to put my mind in healthy vacation mode. Luckily, Todd will be there to make sure I don’t go too overboard ;)

I always come back from vacation feeling more refreshed and energized, I hope this one is no exception!

Have a great two weeks!

Five Facts About Kahlua

2

I saw Caitlin’s post yesterday about her dog James, and thought it would be a nice to list five facts about our own dog, Kahlua. October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and by coincidence, we adopted her last October from the local Humane Society.

She had been there for almost 3 months, had a few potential adopters, but nothing went through until we came along and immediately fell in love with her.

Fact #1:

She’s our own personal bed warmer. She likes to lie as close as possible to us, and sometimes comes close to pushing us off the bed!

Fact #2:
We were told she was a Schipperke mix, but we’re not sure. We think there may also be some Terrier and Whippet in there. We have thought about getting a DNA test, but decided we would wait a little while.

Fact #3:
She has black spots on her tongue and can catch just about any treat from a good distance. It took about 20 minutes and lots of scratches on my arms to teach her how to roll over.

Fact #4:
She doesn’t care much for other dogs, except one. Our friend’s dog Stitch. We call him her boyfriend because he is the only dog that she gets along with. We have tried socializing her with classes and other family dogs, but no luck so far. We won’t give up though. :)

Fact #5:
If she gets too anxious in the car, she drools…..a lot. Which is why we always have to put a towel and sheet down. She never drools anywhere else.

And, of course, she loves to run!

There’s a Place Called Kokomo

5

One week from now, Todd and I will be cruising around the Caribbean! So, either I will have a fantastic trip, or I will go crazy with no internet for two weeks! Hopefully I’ll be able to preoccupy my mind with other things, like catching up on some reading and maybe write a bit too. :)

I know I haven’t been the best at keeping this blog updated, but I get at least one post week in. I may have a post or two pop up while I’m away but nothing spectacular until I get back on November 16th. If you see me on Twitter on November 3rd, that’s because we’ll be in the Virgin Islands where we have cell phone service!

We only booked this trip about a month ago and always go away during the fall/winter because we love the warm weather and getting away from the cold for awhile is always a plus. :) Todd and I never thought of going on a two week cruise, but when we realized we hadn’t taken any vacation days this year, we figured why not? We have to use them up by the end of the year anyway.

So, our itinerary! The ship will be making eight stops: Samana, St. Thomas, Antigua, Dominica, Barbados, St. Lucia, Curaco, Aruba, and we’ll end up in Miami.

Todd is bringing his laptop so I should be able to blog a few times a week so I can keep up with everything. Expect a lot of pictures when I get back!

Little Notes:

Running: Training for the Disney Half Marathon has been going really well! I will continue to train on the cruise ship, and although I’m not looking forward to running around dozens of times on the track around the ship, it sure beats the treadmill!

Physical Therapy: I finished up with my physical therapy last week and I have been pain free for almost two weeks!

Fundraising: I’ll admit it, I am struggling with my fundraising but have decided to recommit because I know I can do this! Although I have sent many letters out I haven’t received much of a response. I have a few more ideas that I will work on when I get back, but until then, I am still selling eCookbooks for a $10 donation! I still haven’t gotten 20 donations yet, so you will still be entered to win a $10 Peeled Gift Card! Please donate and help me find a cure for blood cancer! After you donate, I’ll email you your cookbook!

FitBloggin: I will be attending FitBloggin ‘10! Hope to see you there! :)

Donate & Win!

3

Okay, so as you probably know, I’m running the Disney Half Marathon with Team in Training. I will be running in memory of my uncle who lost his life to leukemia.

I created a Team In Training eCookbook including over 50 recipes from friends and family and you get one free when you donate $10!

But wait, that’s not all!

The first 20 people who donate at least $10 are entered to win a $10 Peeled eGift Card! I had a sample of Peeled Snacks at the Healthy Living Summit and it was probably the best dried fruit I had ever eaten!

And! If I get 40 $10 Donations by October 30th. Everyone who donated will be entered to win a $25 Apple or iTunes Gift Card!

So, let’s get those donations! Remember, every dollar donated goes straight to Team in Training through my secured donation site: http://pages.teamintraining.org/cpa/wdw10/tntgina

After you donate, please email me: fitblogr@gmail.com and I will send you your eCookbook as a thank you for your donation!

After I reach 20 donations, I will randomly select the winner and post on this blog and my twitter.

And if there are 50 donations by October 30th, I’ll be selecting the winner on October 31st!

So please remember those who are struggling with blood cancer and donate!

Hope you are having a great afternoon!
