The Wonders of Multitasking

2

Okay, let’s try this again! Ecto somehow lost the post while it was trying to publish it. The title went through, but not the post! So, I’ll try to rewrite this again as best as I can.

You know when you’re reading a book and just can’t put it down? When you can’t do anything else until you finish? I’ve have done that many times in my life, mostly during the summers in high school and college. I would sit for hours on the couch and just completely withdraw from the world. I got that from my mom. I remember when I was little how she would always be reading before bed. She also had a handful of books in line to read when she finished one. Like mother, like daughter. I have about 10 or so books on my reading list right now, and I keep adding more every week or so :)

Unfortunately with a busy life including a job, husband, dog, freelancing, exercise, and various other things to keep things moving, I never have much time to read anymore. I know exercise needs to be a priority in my life, and when I hit the gym I exercise with my music, or watch the TVs in front of the machines.

This week, I did something different. I read while I walked on the treadmill and rode the bicycle. Sure, it wasn’t a hardcode intense workout, but I walked for an hour on the treadmill at various inclines and speeds, spent 20 minutes on the bike, and burned around 550 calories. That’s not bad at all! I think I found some extra motivation to get me to the gym. :)

I have also decided to start swimming laps at the gym pool to help with my legs. After doing 12 laps, I realized how horrible a swimmer I am! One of my goals in the future is to complete a Sprint Triathlon, so I need to get the swimming in sometime. I’ve also been doing a series of stretches every day for about a week and this morning I woke up and didn’t have any pain, so I know they’re working. Hopefully the swimming will help as well.

So, I am finally back to photo journaling everything I eat. Took me long enough, right? :)

This morning after the pool, I made a Green Monster that included: Spinach, Almond Milk, Banana, and Strawberries.

I also dipped into a half mini watermelon as a snack. It was so much sweeter than the last one I got.

Although the weather is supposed to be cooler this weekend, it also may be raining on and off tomorrow and Sunday. I have 4 mile run scheduled for tomorrow, so I’ll either try to find a break in between the rain or just head to the gym and get through it on the treadmill. I run on an out and back trail, which I love. All I have to do is run halfway out and the only way I can get home is if I run the last half back. No cutting corners or taking a shorter route back.

Crossing my fingers for a sunny Saturday morning!

Organize, Exercise, Prioritize

5

Look what I received in the mail yesterday:

I can’t wait to start reading this, but I have a few books in line right now from the library that I have to finish first. Currently I’m reading The Time Traveler’s Wife, which I am enjoying so far.

After reading Caitlin’s post the other day, I realized how much my clothing needs to be organized. Going through all of my drawers and clothing has been on my to-do list for a long time. It didn’t help that I’ve been really busy for the past couple of weekends so I haven’t had a big free time slot in order to completely tear the bedroom apart and put it back together again. Yes, it’s that bad! The last time I sorted through everything was back in April.

I was able to get through half of my clothing yesterday evening before I headed off to Crossfit. It was a great workout, but it was the first time I actually thought I was going to pass out. The torture workout consisted of:

2-Person Team: 3 Rounds Of
- Row 1,000 Meters
- 20 Medicine Ball Passes
- 20 Medicine Ball Sit-Ups
- 150 Jump Ropes
- 20 Push-ups

It took about 35-40 minutes and the heat and humidity didn’t help much. I came back and just vegged on the couch with a water bottle and read for a little bit. My stomach was all messed up and I just couldn’t think about eating dinner, so I just had a peach and a few strawberries before I went to bed. When I woke up, my stomach was back to normal, but I still wasn’t that hungry, so I just made a Green Monster smoothie.

In it was a handful of Spinach, Banana, Almond Milk, ice, and a spoonful of Chocolate Soynut Butter. As you can see, the soynut butter got stuck to the edge of the cup so I had to scrape it off.

As a snack, I finally broke into Angela’s Glo Bar while going through the directory of the Healthy Living Summit attendees. I have been saving this bar all week and decided this would be the time to try it.

It was worth the wait, flavorful, light, and chewy!

This morning I was also busy on the phone scheduling appointments for the doctor, dentist, and eye doctor. I thought my eyes had finally stopped changing, but I’ve been squinting a little more these days, so I think it’s time to see if I need a new prescription. I wear glasses, but I used to wear contacts in high school and college. I made the switch after college because the contacts always dried my eyes out and I would have to put drops in every hour or so. I remember actually having to sit at our table during our wedding reception and putting them in! That was the last time I wore them.

So the appointment is set for next month and I can’t wait to see what style of frames I’ll end up with this time. :)

So Long Boston, Until Next Time

1

After getting a great night’s sleep, I woke up and realized that there was no way I would be able to fit in the group run that morning. So I decided to go for another walk/run on my own. I went back to the park and just enjoyed the views. I saw a few other people running, practicing yoga, and martial arts.

For fun, I decided to sprint up this hill. I didn’t regret it, although I did get a few strange glances on my way up :)

When I got back to the hotel, I got the rest of my things together and headed to the airport. I took the T train again, and I must say, I am very impressed with Boston transportation. I got from the hotel to the airport in only about 20 minutes. Plus I didn’t have to stand around and wait for a train or the shuttle bus.

When I got the airport, I still had about 90 minutes until my flight left so I sat back and pulled my laptop out to start writing about the weekend. My mouth was really dry, so I sipped on a Pomegranate Seltzer.

I didn’t have Ecto yet, so I had to use Microsoft Word to write up my blog posts.

During that 90 minutes, our gate number was changed 3 times! Plus our flight was overbooked, wonderful! Luckily some people gave up their seats and the flight took off on time. Before I got on the plane, my stomach started to grumble, so I reached for a bar that I got in my swag bag. I had never tried a regular Pro Bar before because I’m really not into meal replacement bars. So I was very happy about this Fruition bar that tasted really good and had great nutrition stats.

D3-kahluaMy parents picked me up from the airport and we stopped for lunch before they dropped me off at home. I was so happy to be back because I missed Todd so much. Yes, I know it was only two days, but this was the first time we had been away from each other for more than a day since we had been married almost two years ago.

Kahlua missed me too :) I made it up to her by playing with her for the rest of the evening. She never left my side!

All in all. I had a great weekend, and the hubby and I will definitely be visiting Boston again. Maybe another weekend trip sometime in the near future :)

The Fisherman’s Feast

2

A calm morning to a crazy evening. Don’t worry, it was a good crazy!

When you get a group of girls, there will talking and more talking, and the voices will get louder. This is what happened when everyone met in the Radisson’s lobby to head to the Fisherman’s Feast. We were told we were being too loud and were asked to quiet down because the employees couldn’t here the people they were talking to, oops!

So we headed out and took a nice 1.5 mile walk to the North End, where the Feast was being held. Boston was gorgeous as the sun was going down, but still very warm!

We split up so we could move through the crowd easily. It would have been hard trying to keep so many people together! I walked around with Haya and we found a lemonade stand, we were both really thirsty! We then went to the next tent and I got a slice of pizza with peppers. It was actually double this size and I could only eat half.

While a group of us were finishing up eating, we learned that some bloggers had come across a wine tasting tent, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, and headed over there. Caitlin worked her magic and got everyone a $2 discount, thanks Caitlin!

I had three shot glass tastings of wine. My favorite was the White Zinfandel.

I also got to talk to Meghann & Caitlin for a few minutes. :)

Afterward, the group walked over to Mike’s Pastry. On the way, Meghann introduced me to Heather who is also running the Disney Half in January! We talked for rest of the walk and split a Black and White cookie. She paid, so I told her I owe her a cookie in Disney World :)

The group split up and some decided to take a cab back, while the rest walked. After seeing the traffic we would have to sit in, I decided to walk back. I hate being stuck in a car and not moving! I ended up back at the hotel around 11PM and crashed, but not before I debated back and forth in my head whether or not to go on the group the next morning.
