Quick Weekend Recap

1

Saturday Todd and I headed down to the Humane Society to have Kahlua meet with Nextel. After an insane amount of barking (which is normal for her when meeting other dogs) and some sniffing, we tried walking with them and letting them check each other out.

Our dog is somewhat of a “punk” and we thought she would be ready to have a friend since she had done well at the PetSmart classes and got along quite well with our friends’ dog. Unfortunately, after having them spend an hour together, we decided it would be unfair for both dogs to be put together in the same home. It was a hard decision, but we know we made the right choice, although we both were sad for a little bit. Of course, Kahlua was right there to perk us back up. We just hope that Nextel goes to a good, loving home.

Kahlua is picky when it comes to choosing her friends, so we’ll be keeping a look out over the next few months, get her socialized some more, and then see about another dog. So far, we know that she likes male dogs that are bigger than her, and he probably needs to be submissive.

We then headed over for our birthday celebration at my parent’s house. Todd’s birthday is on Thursday so we just got together with our family for lunch. Afterward, we headed over to Todd’s parent’s house to introduce Kahlua to his Grandmother’s dog, a little Jack Russell named Muffin. It’s actually an interesting story about how his Grandmother got her. I’ll have to tell it sometime. :)

Muffin was more submissive than Nextel was, and they seemed to get along pretty well, which was good because we may be dogsitting her for a week in November. After a long day out and about, we headed back home and went out to dinner.

We just walked down the block to a little restaurant and bar, where I got the most ginormous veggie sandwich I have ever seen. This was only half of it!

Also, my 5 mile run that morning went pretty good. I did the Galloway method, so I walked 1 minute and ran 1 minute. I wanted to take it easy since this was the first time I had really run since Boston two weeks ago. I finished in about the same time and my calf barely hurt afterward. Sunday though, it was hard getting out of bed, and it still hurts today.

Sunday was pretty relaxing, I just did a few errands and ended up going to the local art fest that was downtown this weekend. There were a lot of interesting things, but nothing I loved enough to buy.

I ended the weekend with a sport salt bath, hoping it would make my legs feel better. I decided I would also start doing at least 10-20 minutes of yoga most days of the week since my legs have been feeling so tight lately.

Spin Around and Around

2

Last night, I stopped at Chick-fil-a for dinner on the way home. I got a Chargrilled Chicken Sandwich with a Fruit Cup.

The dentist was fine, no cavities, yay! I then stopped at the Wegman’s to grab some things, including the Ak Mak crackers, I bought two boxes :) I also grabbed a variety of fruit and a container of Sabra hummus.

After trying this entire week, I finally was able to push myself out of bed and get to the 5:45AM Spin Class. It was a little bit of a struggle because I hadn’t slept well during the night and it felt like the alarm went off right after I fell back asleep. I thought to myself, you can either get up and go to the gym and be tired during the day, or go back to sleep and still be tired during the day. Since either way I was going to be tired, I decided to get up.

I got there about ten minutes before the class started and adjusted my seat and such. We did a warmup, some climbing, jumps, sprints, and a cooldown. This class was about 50 minutes. It’s usually an hour but the instructor had to leave early. I will definitely be doing this again! It was a fun new way to get some exercise in, the instructor was great, and I barely looked at the clock. I didn’t know what to expect at first, so I went a little easy on the resistance. Next time, I’ll up it a little.

It had started to rain when I got back, so I just grabbed my hat and took Kahlua on a nice walk. I plan on taking her with me on my run tomorrow so she can release some energy before meeting Nextel.

For breakfast, I had the usual Green Monster with spinach, banana, and almond milk.

Lunch was a Cucumber and Hummus Wrap with a juicy Nectarine on the side. And a little bit later, I had an Anjou Pear for a snack.

When I got home, I munched on this Pecan Pie Larabar to hold me over for dinner.

And for dinner, Todd and I went out to a casual local restaurant. I got a turkey and cheese on a whole wheat wrap with tomatoes, lettuce, and onions.

Everything is laid out and ready to go for my run tomorrow morning and now, I just need to get some rest. Since tomorrow will be really busy, I’m not sure if I’ll have the time to post. So have a great Saturday!

Jump Rope Anyone?

1

Yesterday for lunch, I had a tortilla with some of my raw salad as a filler. I also had an apple, and some Ak-Mak crackers. I’m all out of the crackers, so I need to get some more. I’ll be trying to go to the grocery store this evening so I’ll be looking for them. If the store doesn’t carry them, I think I’ll be making a quick trip to Trader Joe’s tomorrow after work to stock up!

I headed over to Crossfit after work. I originally signed up for 20 sessions and decided to go once a week to make them last longer. But due to some interesting stories I’ve been hearing around the gym, I need to use them up as soon as possible so I can get my moneys worth. So, I’ll be going three times this week, three times next week, and then once more and I’m done. Depending on how things turn out, I’ll still be doing the workouts, not just with that particular gym.

So yesterday, there was two of us, which I’m thankful for because I would have hated doing it by myself.

For time:
80 Sit-ups
120 Jump Rope (Singles)
60 Sit-ups
180 Jump Rope (Singles)
40 Sit-ups
240 Jump Rope (Singles)
20 Sit-ups
300 Jump Rope (Singles)

I finished just under twenty minutes at 19:48. Plus I beat the other guy that was there with me. :)

Since the workout today wasn’t as intense as it normally is, I was actually starving when I left. So on the way home, I picked up a Veggie Sub from Subway. On it was cheese, lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, onions, and tomatoes.

I have been craving a sub for over a week now, and this really hit the spot!

This morning, it was grab-n-go for breakfast. I had an Amazing Grass mix on the car ride down, and a Bosc pear after I settled in at my desk.

A little before lunch, I also had a Fuji Apple, and plum.

After work, I have a dentist appointment so with that, plus the grocery store trip, I may not be able to make it to the gym tonight. :(

Good news though is that Todd agreed to push me out of bed tomorrow morning so I can go to the 5:45AM spin class! I’ve been setting an alarm to get me up that early all week but I just kept hitting the snooze or turning it off. Maybe being kicked out of bed will help. :)

So Much Can Happen

1

I turned 25 yesterday on the 25th, so it seems like a good start to another year. Last night Todd and I went out to a nice local restaurant. I took my camera, but just got caught up in the atmosphere and some long overdue conversations with Todd that I forgot to take any pictures. I had a glass of Pebble Creek Chardonnay while we talked about our lives over the next few years. Still not sure about our 5 year plan, but we’re getting there. :)

For dinner, I had the Sea Scallops: Shaved Baby Fennel, Citrus Supremes, Blood Orange Beurre Blanc. The sauce was very interesting, to me, it tasted like citrus with a very faint cheese taste. I know, it sounds weird but it was so delicious! Todd had the Elk Loin Medallions: Pan Seared, Grilled Sweet Potatoes, Blackberry Sage Compote and he said it was very good.

I did not go to the gym yesterday. I woke up incredibly sore, probably from the swimming, which I have not felt in awhile. I was actually happy because I knew I had given my muscles a good workout. Tonight though, I’m going to another Crossfit session and maybe the gym afterward.

For breakfast I had some dried banana, watermelon, and a nice hot cup of Dark Magic coffee.

This morning, I received an email from Todd telling me to pick up my phone. I called him back and he had me listen to a voicemail that he had. It turns out we were approved for Nextel, and that we need to call in and schedule for him and Kahlua to meet! I totally was not expecting a call for at least a few more weeks since he’s being treated for heartworms. So this weekend will be chaos!

Todd’s birthday is on September 3rd, I’m a week older than him! It does work out nice though because the whole family just gets together and we celebrate at once. We do the same thing in December because about half the family have birthdays in that month! So, this weekend we have to: meet with Nextel, get together with the family, possibly get together with our friends, go to an arts festival in town, and I have to fit in a 5 mile run.

The majority of it depends on the dogs meeting. If all goes well, we get to call the family and let them know there will be one more for dinner. If they don’t get along, we’ll just hope he finds a home soon. I strongly believe in fate, so whatever happens, happens. :)
